Kyle had seen the approach of the man and had decided to go introduce himself.
" Hello, I am Master Katarn though i encourage my students to call me Kyle. I dont think we have had the pleasure."
Kyle offered his battle scarred hand to Tal
Tal stood up and smiled. He took his hand firmly and shook it, "It is a pleasure to meet you Master. This is quite the place you have all build here! I was too young to remember the last time I was in a Jedi Temple. I was just an infant. But this is much more then I expected."
Kyle smiled " I dunno about how much i really built, this place sort of just sprung into existance. Everytime i go away i seems to grow a new wing"
Katarn looked around as if to appreciate the place.
" So you will be taking the trials soon?"
Tal nodded, "Yes hopefully very soon. My mother wants me to do some more studying before I take them and I have to say that I agree. I haven't exactly been trained like the normal Jedi. We hide on Naboo for the bulk of our lives, staying away from Imperial patrols as best we could. Also means I don't have much practice with lightsaber training."
Katarn considered him.. " I know a thing or two about fighting " ommitting the fact that Katarn was considered the greatest duellest alive in the galaxy.
" if you want to train with me i make my self available to students some times." His features hardened slightly " The training i offer is intense, i only take those who want to become good fighters. The grave yards are full of average fighters. Better not to be a fighter at all"
Tal considered this for a moment and nodded, "I would very much appreciate any training. I admit I am more the diplomat than anything, but I would like to know how to defend myself when I have to."
Katarn nodded, " The galaxy would be a better place if more people wanted to be diplomats, sadly it is not the case so even diplolamts need to pack a punch."
With a hiss Katarns green blade jumped into existance. " Strike, use any technique you like. I need to see what you do by instict before i decide what style suits you "
Tal was surprised that he just pulled out his lightsaber right there but nodded as he pulled out his own lightsaber. It was simply constructed, not fancy at all, but worked. His own lightsaber snapped to life as a blue light shot out and pointed at Kyle. He held his stance like he was taught those many years ago, but since he hadn't been practicing for a long time now, he was slower then he normally was.
He cracked his neck as he made a normal strike to Kyle's head, then spun as he attempted a strike to his leg, torso and arm. Each would be easily blocked. His stance was sloppy and his strikes were not very strong. He was not as flashy as a normal Jedi when fighting, but instead was somewhat predictable and easy to fight against. He knew this too, which was extremely frustrating.
Only Katarns wrist moved and he didnt break eye contact with Tal as he flicked away each attack not really focusing on them. He shook his head
" Why are you frustrated, everu jedi started having no idea how to use a blade. It all comes down to time and practise and you have had to little of both with your blade. I can help you there. Now concertrate and attack me with everything you have "
Tal took a deep breath and relaxed, letting the Force flow through him. Everything became calm as he attacked again letting the attacks just come out of him as the Force told him where to attack. He kept eye contact this time as he did a few spins and rotations he hadn't done before, but still nothing fancy. He really kept with the basic style's that Padawan's learned. He had never advanced further then that.
As he stopped his attack for a moment to take in his surroundings, he almost tripped on a rock that was behind him. He recovered quickly enough to roll and get himself ready again, but if this had been a real fight, he'd probably be dead by now.
Katarn parried and deflected with ease seeking to find what style suited this young man. He didnt have much in the way of speed and his form was loose. THis however was a result of a lack of practise, if he trained he would sort that out.
"Shii-Cho, the way of the Sarlacc" said Katarn flicking aside an attack. It focues on finsihing fights quickly. You disarm your enemmy rather than match him pace for pace. I think this would suit you.
"It is simple, and its simplicity is strength" he added vanishing from Les's sight only to appear behind him. " You wont repel a barrage of blasters but when you strike it will be clean and precise, when you master it you will be a formiddable enemy"
Tal was stunned at what had happened and realized he was behind. Tal sighed in somewhat relief, knowing that Kyle would be able to truly help him with his much needed lightsaber skills. Tal extinguished his blade and turned, looking at Kyle.
"Master Kyle, I am in need of much practice, I realize this, but I promise you I will complete what I have started. If you are willing to help me, I will be very grateful to learn this style. Thank you!" Tal said smiling and took a few steps back, "So...how did you do that?"
Kyle grinned... " First things first, its Kyle so can me please lose the master stuff. Its just kyle. Second of all its not just about learning my technique, a technique is just something that one person decided worked for them, the same will have to be true for you."
Kyle adopted a strong position, backflipping into more agile one before vanishing again and appearing behind Tal. " The best possible technique is the one that fits. If that is a combination then it is the best one "
Kyle beckoned for Tal to follow him. He brought him to a clearing. There were a series of logs facing down arranged in a circle. " You may only move along this logs.. now defend yourself"
Tal nodded as he jumped onto a log. He usually didn't have a huge problem with balance, but then again he wasn't trying to defend himself against an attack. He held himself strong and true as he readied himself for the attack.
At first he did alright, with the simple attacks, but the more powerful and the more complicated Kyle got, the harder it took for Tal to stay on the log. At one point, Tal's foot slipped and he almost stepped off the log, but he pushed himself off and landed on the other side of the circle, ready to defend himself. He hadn't done anything like that before and almost became distracted that it had just happened. He almost wasn't ready for Kyle's next attack as he saw him coming for him in a blur.
" Dont think " spoke a voice with no visible body. "Act" added the disembodied voice as Katarn moved like lightning.
He stopped at a dead halt. " Seriously, i am moving too fast and using too much skill for you to deflect me by sight so just trust the force and strike out at thin air, where you think the attack will be."
In a blur Katarn attacked, his blade picking out points that would not be lethal should the strikes find their mark
The first strike hit Tal on the leg, grazing him. He gritted his teeth against the sting but did not let it break his focus. He breathed deeply and let the Force flow through him. He felt the strength of the Force, heard it's call. His eyes closed and he could feel Kyle's presence and all at once, the world seemed to slow, like he was walking through the drifting leaves of fall.
His blade moved without hesitation at the next attack, perfectly blocking it. It then blocked the second, the third, the forth attack, but he began to strain. His footing began to stumble and he fell backwards on the ground. The world around him came back to life and he opened his eyes to see Kyle standing above him.
Tal grinned, "Kyle....I have never seen the Force work in such ways before. I was able to literally slow time and anticipate your moves....It was...amazing!"
" Well yes and no " replied Kyle. " it will be years before you are technically the one controlling the way the force allows you to enhance your battle abilities. For example the next time we do this it might not be the same effect. What you are doing is similar to what we teach padawans about surrendering to the living force. In this sense you are surrendering control of your body to the force, it takes over for moments but its too early to manipulate it in battle"
Katarn took a step back " do it again "
Tal nodded and sighed as he readied himself again. His lightsaber sprung to life again and he took a ready stance, waiting for Kyle to attack. He did as Kyle said and surrendered himself to the Force. He let the Force take control, let it run him, move him, control him. However, this time he didn't see Kyle's attack until he was right on top of him. At the last possible second he moved out of the way of the attack and watched as he disappeared again.
Tal was confused. He had done exactly as Kyle had instructed, surrendering himself, but he was not able to slow things down like he did before. Instead, it was as if he was almost blinded by the Force. It was making things increasingly difficult to do just about anything and suddenly, his own weight became almost too much to bare.
He became sloppy and unable to control himself as he fumbled again and again with each attack from Kyle. He finally fell again and this time on top of a rock, which shot deeply into his side. He cried out in pain as his ribs felt like they were on fire. "AH! I think I broke something!" He said clutching his side.
